Lisbon Maru, an unforgettable rescue

Lisbon Maru was a Japanese cargo liner shipping British war prisoners during the #WWII. In 1942, it was torpedoed by the submarine USS Grouper around Dongji island of China. 198 Chinese fishermen saved 384 British with 46 sampan. In October 1942,the Japanese tried to prevent the prisoners from escaping before abandoning the ship.198 fishermen on #Zhejiang Dongji Island rescued the 384 British POWs using their small fishing boats.
